Youth Leadership Training Programme

Baacha Khan Trust Educational Foundation and the Hanns Seidel Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to initiate a youth leadership training programme in N.W.F.P. Under this programme, the capacity of youth in N.W.F.P. and FATA will be built on themes related to four major topics. The programme will be implemented in one-year time.

Civic and political education is essential for successful democratic governance. Keeping in view that youth provides the future leadership of Pakistan, there is a need of engagement of youth in civic and political discourse and activities. The envisaged programme is aimed at creating awareness and training youth in different areas such as social responsibility and contributing citizenry. More precisely, the civic education programme will be built on themes Peace & Development, Democracy, Human Rights and Leadership.

Experts from Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Islamabad, and Democratic Commission of Human Rights (DCHR), Lahore, will provide for a master course on the above mentioned topics. The goal of the project is to select the best participants as master trainers, who will subsequently engage other youth, male and female, in constructive discourse on relevant social and political issues and prepare them for leadership role in the society.

Youth of N.W.F.P. (Pukhtunkhwa) aging between 20-30 years will be selected on the basis of fixed criteria. The participants will be pre-selected from progressive civil society, student unions and universities. At the same time, the programme shall be advertised in the public for the retrieval of independent applications for the interested public.

For effective implementation, the project is divided in different phases, in the first phase master trainers from BKTEF were trained and training modules were developed. After the training of the trainers (TOT), the trainers will impart their trainings to the selected youth. The youth leadership programme will be conducted on two levels. In the first level of the programme ten participants from each tehsil of N.W.F.P and FATA will be trained whereas in the second round the most competent participants of the previous level would be further trained and their skills would be developed.

The second phase will involve youth for 9 days in 14 different districts. The workshop will impart the following content:
